About the Institut Escola del Treball of Barcelona

Throughout its over 100-year history, the Institut Escola del Treball has trained countless generations of professionals equipped for the industrial challenges of each decade.

Today, it has more than 3,000 students enrolled in its 115 courses, collaborates with more than 350 companies in the region, and is a center of excellence in the national network for automated manufacturing in advanced intelligent industry.

The need for educational technological upgrading

Escola del Treball has always been characterized by its constant evolution and adaptation to the most innovative advancements of the time. For this reason, it embraced additive manufacturing from the very beginning and equipped its classrooms with 3D printers to train its students.

Furthermore, additive manufacturing is not a replacement technology within its curriculum offering but rather acts as a complementary technology in activities such as welding, machining, or subtractive manufacturing.

“We adopted additive manufacturing for its great potential as a complementary technology”

Joan Gensana - Mechanical manufacturing professor and Innovation coordinator

The result: preparing digital professionals for the future

Knowledge of 3D printing is becoming increasingly in demand across various industries and sectors. Thanks to the integration of 3D printers, students train and learn to be self-sufficient in using this technology, which positively impacts their entry into the workforce.

Students gain a comprehensive understanding of the entire chain of events from start to finish, from prototyping and CAD/CAM design to validation and printing of the final part.
