3D printing is one of the technologies with the greatest potential ever developed, as it makes it possible to personalize very specific parts to the millimeter, to cover specific needs in production lines.

About Mitec Enginy

Mitec Enginy is an engineering and automation company that has opted for 3D printing to develop workstations and robotic stations for different sectors such as the medical, textile, food and automotive sectors.

Mitec Enginy specializes in the automation of industrial production processes, carrying out multi-sector projects, and in constant innovation. They help to increase the performance of companies, either by designing a new workstation, improving the existing one or simply doing an ergonomics study of the workstation, always looking for the most profitable option.

"Thanks to INTECH3D's advice in the world of 3D printing, we have been able to manufacture spare parts for robots on an assembly line, parts for very specific workstations, and prototypes to show customers, reducing time and costs."

Xavier Alarcón - Senior Engineer

The challenge: Finding a manufacturing method that would allow them to obtain parts with very complex geometries, shortening times and simplifying processes.

The industry sector, over time, has evolved with the manufacturing processes and technologies used. 3D printing redefines the processes of industrial companies, since its benefits are multiple and very noticeable in this sector.

Today we are going to talk about how our Mitec Enginy clients have integrated 3D printing technology. Its main activity is focused on offering engineering and automation solutions to increase the productivity of its clients' industrial processes, building workstations and autonomous production cells.

One of the objectives of Mitec Enginy was to find a technology that adapted to its needs, with which to be able to manufacture complex parts and sets of parts, very difficult to obtain using other manufacturing methods.

The solution: 3D printing for the manufacture of spare parts, custom parts and prototypes

At Mitec Enginy, among other applications, they use 3D printing to manufacture spare parts for assembly line robots. They also use it to make custom parts and kits with very specific needs, as well as replacements for obsolete parts that are no longer readily available.

3D printing has been applied mainly for final parts, with the use of multiple materials according to specific needs. Among them, resistant PLA, with which they achieve impeccable results. They also use PVA for the supports. In turn, they use the UltiMaker S5 equipment to print prototypes, to which small modifications are made to find the desired part or to show first copies of parts to their clients.

Now that Mitec Enginy has a high-quality and reliable 3D printer, such as the UltiMaker S5, they are able to manufacture parts to offer solutions to the multiple technical problems of companies and their production lines. In this way, thanks to 3D printing, they can create customized solutions to improve ergonomics and comfort for workers, among other applications.

Project results: Reduction of manufacturing costs by 80% and production times by 67%

Since at Mitec Enginy they apply 3D printing in multiple phases of their production, they have been able to make the most of the many advantages of additive manufacturing. Therefore, thanks to this integration, they have managed to reduce costs and manufacturing times.

In this way, the 3D printing of a specific piece, taking into account the cost of the material, the electricity costs, the preparation time and the amortization of the machine, has an approximate price of €30. On the other hand, the production of the same part through other manufacturing methods, such as a machining center, would cost approximately €150.

As a result of having integrated 3D printing into their manufacturing processes, at Mitec Enginy they have managed to reduce manufacturing times. As an example, a 3D printed part can take around 1 day, while for machining, the manufacturing time would be between 2 and 3 days approximately, without taking into account the transport time of the part to the company.

Therefore, at Mitec Enginy, they have managed to reduce manufacturing times and costs as a result of having opted for 3D printing. Furthermore, the integration of this technology has meant that large parts with very complex geometries can be manufactured internally, also reducing their costs and times.

The INTECH3D 3D Consulting process

INTECH3D we are business advisers and consultants, in the field of the integration of additive production technologies in the value chains of companies. We take responsibility for the correct integration of the teams in the value chain of each company or business:

  • Advice during the choice of the right technology
  • Marketing of equipment, consumables and spare parts
  • Training for the use of the necessary Hardware and Software
  • Integrated equipment maintenance
  • Official technical service for all products marketed

The INTECH3D technical team has more than 6 years of experience in various 3D printing technologies. We have different technologies and manufacturing materials with 3D printing, to cover the different technological or business needs of each sector:

  • Conceptual prototypes
  • Functional prototypes
  • Final components
  • Workshop tools
  • Spare parts
  • Short and medium production series.

It is also very important that all the departments of the same company know all the possibilities and benefits that 3D printing can bring to their sector:

  • Risk reduction in manufacturing
  • Reduced manufacturing costs
  • Reduced manufacturing time
  • Validation with a prototype before making an investment in final manufacturing
  • Manufacture "on demand", without discarding material.
  • Reduction of the "Time to Market" of the final product
  • Manufacture of "Bridge" series to know its fit in the market
  • Possibility of making short production series
  • Elimination of time in the provision of Stock
