SUCCESS STORY: MORILLAS BRAND DESIGN
Client
Morillas Brand Design
Sector
Product design studio, concept design, branding y packaging
Technology
UltiMaker S3
The product design sector benefits from the multiple advantages of 3D printing, since it allows the creation of practically any shape. Additive manufacturing is a technology that has no limits in terms of obtaining complex geometries. In addition, with 3D printing it is possible to simplify the design validation process, which implies multiple changes and improvements.
About Morillas Brand Design
Morillas Brand Design is one of the companies in the design, branding and packaging sector that has integrated 3D printing into its processes, for the manufacture of conceptual prototypes, before moving on to the manufacturing phase.
Morillas Brand Design is a creative design studio that is committed to innovation, technology and creativity. They are dedicated, among other things, to the design of product packaging and have highly renowned clients.
Higher quality and productivity
“Thanks to the integrated 3D printing equipment, we have managed to reduce printing costs by 98% and times by 50%. Another benefit is the quality surface finishes, which allowed us to stop outsourcing every time we needed parts with perfect results and to produce all the prototypes within the studio”.
Pep Trias - Industrial Design Director
The challenge: Finding a manufacturing method that offered them quality finishes for the prototypes of their packaging projects.
At Morillas Brand Design they are always looking to innovate and present unique designs to their clients. At the company, they already had a maker-style 3D printer, which was not achieving the quality results they needed, and, in turn, the print job was quite slow.
It is for this reason that they began to look for a more reliable equipment, which offered them a higher quality surface finish to manufacture the dimensional prototypes of their projects, and thus be able to check tolerances and shapes in a more optimal way. In addition, in many of the designs, they used other manufacturing methods and materials that were very expensive.
The solution: Integration of a highly reliable 3D printing equipment, for the manufacture of functional and dimensional prototypes
Opting for 3D printing with UltiMaker S3 equipment has meant that Morillas Brand Design can manufacture dimensional prototypes of their packaging designs, with the aim of validating dimensions, tolerances and shapes, through a more simplified process.
More specifically, when they have to validate the operation of a bottle cap, it is important that the part is accurate and has a good surface finish so that it can be tested, before proceeding to the manufacture of the final part. To print the prototypes they use PLA, an easy material to work with and that gives excellent results.
Project results: Reduction of manufacturing costs by 97% and production times by 50%
The integration of a professional 3D printing team has allowed them to reduce costs when designing dimensional packaging prototypes. Previously, they made the prototypes with methacrylate, a resistant and transparent plastic material. Hyper-realistic concept prototypes with methacrylate cost between €600 and €800 each, while printing the same prototype with the UltiMaker S3 reduces the unit cost to €2. A very noticeable change that represents a 97% reduction in manufacturing costs.
During the packaging design phase, at Morillas Brand Design they make a multitude of models and prototypes, with the aim of validating the design and making all the necessary improvements, before moving on to the manufacturing phase. Therefore, thanks to integrating 3D printing as a method of prototyping, thousands of euros are saved.
What's more, thanks to integrating a professional 3D printing team, they have managed to reduce manufacturing times by 50% and present their projects to each client more quickly.
The INTECH3D 3D Consulting process
INTECH3D we are business advisers and consultants, in the field of the integration of additive production technologies in the value chains of companies. We take responsibility for the correct integration of the teams in the value chain of each company or business:
- Advice during the choice of the right technology
- Marketing of equipment, consumables and spare parts
- Training for the use of the necessary Hardware and Software
- Integrated equipment maintenance
- Official technical service for all products marketed
The INTECH3D technical team has more than 6 years of experience in various 3D printing technologies. We have different technologies and manufacturing materials with 3D printing, to cover the different technological or business needs of each sector:
- Conceptual prototypes
- Functional prototypes
