PARDO (Grupo Pikolin) began by creating some of its parts and materials using 3D Printing and, given the good results it was obtaining, it decided to have its own 3D printer. In this way, you can improve and streamline your manufacturing processes. In addition to all this, 3D printing also allows PARDO to further personalize each piece and bet on more sustainable manufacturing.

About PARDO (Grupo Pikolin)

PARDO is a company that has more than 45 years of experience. This international company in the industrial sector is one of the leaders in the manufacture of hospital beds and materials. In addition, it is also a provider of some of the most modern smart room solutions for hospitals and nursing homes.

In 2012, PARDO joined the Pikolin Group (one of the largest industrial groups in Europe), launching a strong national and international expansion strategy. His goal is to turn his company into one of the most important brands of hospital beds and materials internationally.

3D printing to increase production agility and reduce production costs

“3D printing has allowed us to manufacture parts in our own facilities without having to buy them outsourced and in large quantities. This has meant a great improvement in terms of agility within our company, in addition to the customization that we always seek to offer the best solutions to our clients.”

Mariano Gil – R&D Department

The challenge: the possibility of delivering on demand, avoiding the immobilization of material

When manufacturing hospital furniture, many things must be taken into account. Each of the pieces that make up any type of bed or furniture counts. And the manufacture of resistant and quality parts is the key factor. Each finish must be taken care of in detail, so that a perfectly safe result is obtained and that it can carry out its function correctly.

That is why PARDO (Grupo Pikolin) was looking for a method to manufacture its products that could increase its productivity and effectiveness, in addition to wanting to become one of the most important brands of hospital beds and furniture. Thanks to 3D printing, he was able to improve work efficiency, achieve spectacular results and do all of this in his own facilities through a 3D printer.

The solution: final parts for the manufacture of beds and hospital furniture, as well as pedals and other components

Previously, the PARDO company used to manufacture its parts through Subtractive technology – CNC (computer numerical control), machining center (through molds and blocks of material), etc. But after getting in touch with PARDO and knowing and evaluating all their needs, we discovered what type of 3D printer and materials were the best and most suitable for the objectives they were looking for.

  • 3D technology used: with two UltiMaker S5 FFF (Fused Deposition Modeling) printers. Or what is the same, modeling by deposition of molten material.
  • 3D materials used: PVA (PolyVinyl Acetate), PA (Polyamide or, more commonly, Nylon) and CF (filaments of different materials reinforced with short carbon fibers).
Project results: obtaining fully customized parts, in much less time and, above all, in a more sustainable way. All this thanks to 3D printing

Thanks to the application of 3D printing, the large company PARDO (Pikolin Group) has achieved its goals. You can now manufacture all your products in a more agile way, even if the series are short or on demand. And all this without having to leave their own offices. The materials that they have used for 3D printing have offered them results with a much more professional, resistant and quality finish.

As we know that not everything works out right the first time, our 3D printers offer the possibility of manufacturing various test pieces until finding the exact structure that meets the needs and objectives required, without wasting more material than necessary.

From INTECH3D we are very proud to see how companies like PARDO achieve their goals through 3D printing technology. Thanks to the 3D printer they have, they achieve higher performance and improve the manufacturing of their parts. Continuing with this line, the sustainability achieved in this project is more than satisfactory: now, with 3D printing, PARDO can manufacture its parts saving on energy costs, as it previously meant the transport of parts outside the office, as well as the casting as the previous manufacturing method. Thanks to all these advantages, the function of the component and the performance requirements become the main and biggest drivers of the design.

And it is that PARDO (Grupo Pikolin) has not only achieved the results he wanted, but has also found other benefits for his company: 3D printing technology has allowed to reduce the costs of production and manufacture of beds and hospital furniture, considerably reducing the elaboration time of each piece.

This is so important and notable that it translates into an improvement in production performance and agility in the industrial chain of the company.

The INTECH3D 3D Consulting process

INTECH3D we are business advisers and consultants, in the field of the integration of additive production technologies in the value chains of companies. We take responsibility for the correct integration of the teams in the value chain of each company or business:

  • Advice during the choice of the right technology
  • Marketing of equipment, consumables and spare parts
  • Training for the use of the necessary Hardware and Software
  • Integrated equipment maintenance
  • Official technical service for all products marketed

The INTECH3D technical team has more than 6 years of experience in various 3D printing technologies. We have different technologies and manufacturing materials with 3D printing, to cover the different technological or business needs of each sector:

  • Conceptual prototypes
  • Functional prototypes
  • Final components
  • Workshop tools
  • Spare parts
  • Short and medium production series.

It is also very important that all the departments of the same company know all the possibilities and benefits that 3D printing can bring to their sector:

  • Risk reduction in manufacturing
  • Reduced manufacturing costs
  • Reduced manufacturing time
  • Validation with a prototype before making an investment in final manufacturing
  • Manufacture "on demand", without discarding material.
  • Reduction of the "Time to Market" of the final product
  • Manufacture of "Bridge" series to know its fit in the market
  • Possibility of making short production series
  • Elimination of time in the provision of Stock

If you want to apply 3D printing technology in your company or business, do not hesitate to contact us. We are at the service of companies for the immediate resolution of any doubt or query related to the use of the equipment.
